How it started...

Inspired by the vibrant colors of Africa, the idea of Dutchies was born in 2022. During a year-long family adventure across the continent, my husband, our two kids, and I explored its beauty in our 4x4, complete with rooftop tents. But as an avid photographer (a.k.a. "mamarazzi"), I constantly struggled with my oversized phone. It wouldn't fit in my pockets, I was forever misplacing it, and existing phone cases with non-removable cords only added to my frustration. My search for the perfect case—protective, stylish, high-quality, and versatile—came up empty.

And so I decided during our journey to do it myself and the dream of this Dutchie was born ... I embarked on a quest for the perfect materials, scouring for the most beautiful prints and highest-quality leather. My relentless pursuit of excellence even drove our suppliers a little crazy! Samples were shipped to us in Zambia, Namibia, and beyond, undergoing rigorous testing at every stop. Only when every detail was perfect did production finally begin in late 2022, bringing the ideal phone cover to life. 

The launch

Holding the very first Dutchies collection of covers and straps in my hands was a moment I'll never forget. I was absolutely thrilled – everything was perfect! In December 2022, we launched our first collection of handmade leather phone cases with interchangeable straps on our website, and the overwhelmingly positive response was incredibly validating!

What turned out was that thousands of women had the same problem and were immediately thrilled about Dutchies! In no time, we are packing day and (sometimes literally!) night, opening our warehouse, retailers are joining us, and the Dutchies team is growing!
